Last summer I became mildly obsessed with MadMen. I blame spending the majority of my freshly minted post-grad days franticly searching for openings at LA ad agencies for fueling my obsession with what Madison Ave. once was. It also didn’t hurt that one of the stars is an absolute hunk. Jon Hamm? Ay Carumba!
All of the characters had their niche on the show and for the most part I appreciated what each actor brought to the show…all except January Jones (JJ). I don’t know what it was but by season 2 I was tired of her. Her character had little-to-no depth and I felt her part could have been played more convincingly by any other blond actress. To be perfectly honest, I really don’t think she’s all that attractive. Her looks are very well…50s. The reason why she fits the part so well is because she represents the aspirations of every white, 50s, housewife. Thin, blond w/ blue eyes, easy on the eyes. In reality, JJ - and her acting chops - aren’t distinguishable from a host of other up and coming blonds in Hollywood.
Now, you may think i’m being a little harsh. Granted, I would normally keep these thoughts to myself (or at least out of my blog) but here’s the real reason I decided to air my grievances with this less than talented blond bore…
She’s got a big ego and if there is any human trait I hate most, it’s arrogance.
Here’s what my new best friend, Zack Galifianakis, had to say about Ms. Jones.
I was at a party — I’d never met her — and she was like, ‘Come sit down.’ So I sit at her table and talk for 10 minutes, and she goes, ‘I think it’s time for you to leave now.’
So I say, ‘January, you are an actress in a show and everybody’s going to forget about you in a few years, so f—- be nice,’ and I got up and left.
When asked if he’d get down and dirty w/ Jones for a movie scene he replied
I wouldn’t want to, I’d hate it.
Zach, you rock.
